About PaySlipCheck
PaySlipCheck is a set of free UK tax and salary calculators and plain-English guides. It shows what happens to your gross pay between the offer letter and your bank account: Income Tax, National Insurance, pension, student loan and tax codes.

Why it exists
Every UK employer applies the same HMRC rules, but it's hard to check your own payslip against them. PaySlipCheck aims to:
- use the current tax year's published rates and thresholds;
- show its working, band by band;
- work on a phone;
- need no sign-up, and never send the figures you type to a server.
Who's behind PaySlipCheck
PaySlipCheck is an independent website published by POW XD Ltd. It isn't run by accountants or financial advisers and isn't connected to HMRC or any government body. We don't put a named author on our pages; the site itself is the author.
How our content is made
Our guides are drafted with AI assistance and checked against official and primary sources before publishing. Figures are reviewed on the date shown on each page. Everything here is general information, not professional advice.
- Rates from official sources. Tax bands, thresholds and rates come from GOV.UK, HMRC and gov.scot publications. Salary context comes from sources named on each page, such as the ONS.
- Transparent calculations. The calculator logic is plain JavaScript in
tax-engine.js, unminified so anyone can read it. - Automated checks. Every build runs the tax engine against a fixed set of worked examples (for example, £35,000 → £28,720 and £50,000 → £39,520 take-home in 2026/27) and fails if any result changes unexpectedly.
- Dated pages. Guides and calculators show when they were last reviewed.
More detail: editorial standards and methodology.
What we don't do
We don't give personal financial, tax or legal advice. The calculators use standard assumptions (for example, a standard tax code unless you enter another) and can't know everything about your situation. For decisions that matter, check with HMRC or a qualified professional.
Corrections
If a figure looks wrong, please tell us via the contact page. When we correct a page we update its "Last reviewed" date.
How the site is funded
PaySlipCheck shows Google AdSense ads and includes a small number of labelled affiliate links, where we may earn a commission if you sign up with a partner. We never sell or share the figures you enter; they don't leave your device. See our privacy policy.
