Privacy & Cookie Policy

At a glance
- Calculator inputs stay on your device. Salary, pension and other figures never leave your browser.
- We don't set our own tracking cookies. The only first-party storage we use is a single
localStorageentry that remembers your analytics choice. - Advertising consent is handled by Google. We show Google AdSense ads. Visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland see Google's own consent message (a Google-certified consent management platform) and choose there whether Google may use cookies or personal data for ads.
- Analytics only after you agree. Our own banner asks only about Google Analytics. Until you accept, analytics storage stays switched off.
- You can change your mind any time via the "Analytics cookie preferences" link at the foot of every page, or the privacy and cookie settings link in Google's consent message.
What you put into the calculators
Every figure you type into a calculator (salary, pension contribution, age, hours, etc.) is processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. It is not transmitted to our server, and we have no way to retrieve it. Refreshing or closing the page clears it. The shareable URL feature on the take-home pay calculator builds a link in your browser using the values you've already entered — we don't see those URLs unless you choose to send them to us.
Cookies and similar technologies
1. Strictly necessary (no consent needed)
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
psc_consent | Stores your analytics choice so we don't ask again on every page load. | 180 days (localStorage) |
2. Analytics (Google Analytics 4, only after you accept on our banner)
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to count visits, see which calculators are used most and spot pages that aren't working. GA4 runs in Google Consent Mode with analytics storage denied by default: until you accept, no analytics cookies are set (Google may still receive basic, cookieless signals such as the page viewed). If you accept, these cookies are set:
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes unique users. | 2 years |
_ga_3XC61YXQ6Q | Stores session state for our GA4 property. | 2 years |
The reports we see are aggregated traffic counts, not identifiable browsing histories. We also record anonymous events such as "calculator completed" or "affiliate link clicked" so we can see which tools and links are useful.
3. Advertising (Google AdSense)
The Google AdSense script loads on every page. For visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland, Google shows its own consent message, served through Google's certified consent management platform, and Google applies your choice: with consent, Google and its partners may use cookies to personalise ads, measure them and limit how often you see them; without consent, Google serves non-personalised or limited ads under its own rules. Our analytics banner does not control advertising cookies.
Google's explanation of how it uses information from sites that use its services is at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Its cookie list is at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies. Google may transfer this information to servers outside the UK.
Advertising and analytics — legal basis and your choices
We rely on your consent (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and PECR) for analytics cookies. Consent for advertising cookies and personalised ads is collected and recorded by Google's consent message.
You can:
- Change your analytics choice any time via the Analytics cookie preferences link in the footer.
- Change your advertising choice via the privacy and cookie settings link that Google's consent message adds to the page.
- Opt out of personalised advertising across all of Google at My Ad Center.
- Opt out of Google Analytics across all sites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Use the industry opt-out tool at youronlinechoices.com.
- Read Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Affiliate links
Some pages link to third-party services, such as a budgeting app, a CV builder or online courses. Where we have an affiliate relationship we may earn a commission if you sign up after clicking. These links are labelled "Affiliate link" and marked rel="sponsored". Clicking one takes you to the affiliate network (for example Awin) and then the provider, who may set their own cookies under their own privacy policy. The full list of partners is on our advertising and affiliate disclosure page.
Your rights under UK GDPR
Because we don't store personal data ourselves, there's nothing to subject-access, rectify or erase from our systems. For data Google holds about you, please use the Google Ads Settings link above or contact Google directly. If you email us we'll only retain the email for as long as is needed to respond to it. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Children
The site is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please email seo@powxd.co.uk and we'll delete it immediately.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page whenever something material changes — the "last updated" date at the top will reflect the latest version. Substantive changes will trigger a fresh consent prompt on your next visit.
