Privacy & Cookie Policy
Last updated: 1 May 2026 · Data controller: PaySlipCheck (UK)
At a glance
- Calculator inputs stay on your device. Salary, pension and other figures never leave your browser.
- We don't run our own tracking cookies. The only first-party storage we use is a single
localStorageentry to remember your cookie consent choice. - Analytics and ads only after you consent. If you reject non-essential cookies, neither Google Analytics nor Google AdSense loads at all. If you accept, both run with IP anonymisation and Google Consent Mode v2.
- You can change your mind any time via the "Cookie preferences" link at the foot of every page.
What you put into the calculators
Every figure you type into a calculator (salary, pension contribution, age, hours, etc.) is processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. It is not transmitted to our server, and we have no way to retrieve it. Refreshing or closing the page clears it. The shareable URL feature on the take-home pay calculator builds a link in your browser using the values you've already entered — we don't see those URLs unless you choose to send them to us.
Cookies and similar technologies
1. Strictly necessary (no consent needed)
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
psc_consent | Stores your cookie-consent choice so we don't ask again on every page load. | 180 days (localStorage) |
2. Analytics (set by Google Analytics 4, only after consent)
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to count visits, see which calculators are used most and spot pages that aren't working. The cookies set are:
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
_ga | Distinguishes unique users. | 2 years |
_ga_3XC61YXQ6Q | Stores session state for our GA4 property. | 2 years |
We've enabled IP anonymisation in GA4 so your full IP address is never stored. The reports we see are aggregated traffic counts, not identifiable browsing histories.
3. Advertising (set by Google AdSense, only after consent)
If you accept advertising cookies, Google AdSense may set cookies to:
- Measure ad performance and frequency capping.
- Serve personalised advertising based on your prior browsing of this and other sites that use Google ad services (only if you accepted "Accept all" on our banner).
If you reject non-essential cookies on our banner, neither AdSense nor Google Analytics is loaded at all. If you accept, the full list of Google cookie names and lifetimes is at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies. Google may transfer this information to servers outside the UK; transfers are covered by Google's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Advertising and analytics — legal basis and your choices
This site uses Google AdSense and Google Analytics 4. We rely on your consent (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) for personalised advertising, the cookies that support it, and analytics cookies. For non-personalised advertising, where it's allowed, we may rely on legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — but only after you have made a choice on our banner.
You can:
- Withdraw consent any time via the Cookie preferences link in the footer.
- Opt out of personalised advertising across all of Google at Google Ads Settings.
- Opt out of Google Analytics across all sites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Use the industry opt-out tools at aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.com.
- Read Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Your rights under UK GDPR
Because we don't store personal data ourselves, there's nothing to subject-access, rectify or erase from our systems. For data Google holds about you, please use the Google Ads Settings link above or contact Google directly. If you email us we'll only retain the email for as long as is needed to respond to it. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Children
The site is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we'll delete it immediately.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page whenever something material changes — the "last updated" date at the top will reflect the latest version. Substantive changes will trigger a fresh consent prompt on your next visit.
